STOP the PRESSES: INCANDESCENT

I want to celebrate my debut release of my story: INCANDESCENT which will be releasead Monday, August 27, 2012.

Blurb:

Some gifts are unwanted, and Laurie’s Hudson’s affinity for fire is one she hates. It has destroyed her relationship with her family and she has few friends. She’s fought hard to keep the fire inside suppressed, living a low-key life as a bartender, until a brutal and charming man blows into her life.

Around Mikhail Petrov, her careful control disintegrates. She is at once drawn to his urbane, cool demeanor and irritated by his overbearing manner. Her options are taken away when he kidnaps her, forcing her into a fight she wants nothing to do with.

As she learns to survive, Laurie faces the hardest choice of all, her freedom or the destruction of the frustrating man she’s come to care for.

My hero, Mikhail Petrov is a suave and at times a cruel man. He’s forgotten how to care, because for him this emotion brings weakness and he can’t afford to show any. He doesn’t expect Laurie to affect him, but she does and the result changes everything.

I love to write anti-heroes, the ones that are bad, but have their own moral code. They intrigue me, because on the written page I can explore any possibility. Would I like to meet one of my heroes in real life? Probably not. This is why I like fiction. Especially Urban Fantasy, add romance and I am hooked.

As for heroines, Laurie Hudson is a woman who wants a quiet life. She doesn’t think she’s strong, but she is. She has to learn to grow and take responsibility for what she has. Life isn’t fair, but she has to deal with the hand she’s played. I like my heroines to go on a journey–to grow and become stronger. I want them to be determined and at times funny. Most of all I have to relate to them.

Of all the characters I write–the heroines are the ones that I’d like to know–someone I’d meet for coffee or to go shopping (well, that’s iffy, if you know me, I don’t like to shop).  This is a bit different from the hero–someone who makes me uneasy.

Today, I celebrate my characters:  Mikhail and Laurie–two people who shouldn’t be together–but do end up together with explosive results.

I am excited to share this story and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it!

Author Bio: M.V. Freeman is a native of Minnesota, but calls North Alabama her home. She is a member of RWA, and the chapters: Georgia Romance Writers, Southern Magic, and Heart of Dixie. By day her mind is filled with medical jargon at the local health clinic, but at night
she finds herself exploring alternate worlds within our own. Heavily influenced by Slavic languages and culture, you will find she weaves these elements into her stories. Her award-winning current story INCANDESCENT is the first in a series. She is currently working on the second book in the series while plotting another project. When she is not writing, she’s reading, cooking, throwing around kettle bells, or making coffee.

Meet A Lady In Red: M.V. Freeman

Hello, it’s a pleasure to be here and introduce myself. I write under my pen name M.V. Freeman because I need to keep my professional life separate, although, it is not far from my real name.

I am married to my own hero and have two children–daughters. My husband, who came from all boys, once asked me when our daughters were young “Girls cry a lot don’t they?” –Yes and chocolate is the safest bet.  As you can tell, it’s *always* an adventure and I adore it.

I live in the southeast and find any excuse possible to explore other parts of the country.

Questions:

What’s your secret Passion? Oh, Coffee, Kettle bells, and Vampire diaries…wait, this is supposed to be serious.  Writing. That is my not so secret passion but it is why I am here.

If you didn’t live where you do, where would you live? Why? I would live in San Francisco or Dublin Ireland.  For me, San Francisco is a fascinating city, you can walk everywhere and it never gets too hot or too cold.  I lived there when I was younger. Alas—I can’t afford to live there.  So, I just admire it when I can.  And as for Dublin Ireland—not hard to guess—the Irish. Beer. And it rains a lot–never gets too cold or hot (sense the pattern here?) I’ve never been.  Then why add it? Because I totally expect to visit someday. Soon. I hope.  I can’t forget Montana–that’s also on my list….I really, really want to visit there too. (Pam and Rionna, I may take you up on those offers!)

What’s the first creative writing you remember doing outside a class?  Drawing and writing. I’ve always needed to do something creative.  I remember drawing stories as young as five…(my first introduction to graphic novels/comic books).  My career in graphic novels did not pan out—but writing won the day.

Why do you write romance novels?  I write romance novels because I like the tension of it –the sparks between two people who normally wouldn’t meet. It’s what makes me turn the page when I read. Plus, you can put romance in any genre– Fantasy, Mystery, Suspense…and it adds something exciting.  That’s why I write it. Of course—there is the happily ever after, because when I finish a book as a reader and writer there has to be something that makes you smile.

What else do you write?  I also write Young Adult Urban Fantasy and I know I have one contemporary mapped out, but honestly it Urban Fantasy/Paranormal that are my favorite genre’s to write.

Do you identify closely with one particular character? How? Oooh, this is a tough one. The one I truly identify with is my secondary character in my current book INCANDESCENT. Her name is Mina—she’s awkward, a bit strange, and endearing. She tries her best to help, but makes things worse. She also prefers to dress like a Goth. (I have Goth like tendencies—but I must live vicariously through my characters).

The best part about my writing life is:  I get to explore those people, stories and worlds I imagine. I also get to meet other really cool writers who inspire me when I go to a conference or a chapter meeting.

The worst part about my writing life isThe hardest part—is the business side and marketing. If I could get minions to do this for me I would, but I cannot.  So now, I must learn to balance it all—so I can find time to write.  It still drives me to drink way too much caffeine.

Give us a hint about what the next book’s like. It’s not contracted, but the next book after INCANDESCENT is the second in the series , it features a heroine who tries to right a wrong she helped create, while convincing the hero he loves her. It’s set in world I created in the first book—of elementals, the mob, and dastardly deeds.

Thanks again for coming by! I’ll be back to talk about my upcoming book release later this month. Until then I will be writing furiously.
